Listen to and Create Sound Files in the PC Language Lab

These instructions are for students who are assigned to listen to sound files and then practice their pronunciation.

  1. Listen to the audio file you are using as a model by either clicking on the link in the web page or double clicking on the file. Your instructor can give you the location.
  2. Listen to file until you think you are comfortable enough to repeat it.
  3. If it is not already open, start the Sound Recorder by going to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Sound Recorder.
  4. Press the record button and speak into the microphone in the headset.
  5. Press the play button to listen to your own voice.
  6. Click File -> New in the Sound Recorder menu to try again. A dialogue box will open asking you if you want to save changes to the sound file. Click No.
  7. Try again by clicking the Record button.
  8. Listen to yourself by clicking the Play button.
  9. If you are satisfied with your recording, click File -> Save As in the Sound Recorder.
  10. Save your file in the Instructor's share by browsing to the Desktop -> Share -Tempdrop. This will place your file in a folder on the instructor's computer at the front of the room. Enter a file name that includes your own name along with the assignment. Click Save.
