Library and Information Services Technology Classes & Workshops
All classes listed below are held in the LIS Professional Development Lab (unless noted) which is located in the second floor of South College in rooms 212/214. This classroom has PC computers. Classes are open to students, faculty and support staff unless noted.
There is no need to sign up, first come first serve. When attending a class, please be sure you know your network password to log onto the computer. If you do not know your network password email helpdesk@dickinson.edu before class to get a new one.
Moodle Workshops for Faculty
November 11th - 2pm till 3:30pm

Come to these introduction workshops to learn the basic functions of using Moodle an online course management system that will replace Blackboard in the 2010. Moodle is available now with courses already created & students enrolled. Features that we will go over during this workshop include:
- Navigation Areas within a Course & make your course Available
- Adding Resources & Activities
- Customize your Course design - Format Topics or Weekly
- How to Add Files & Links
- Learn how to send a Message
- Find Help using Moodle Docs linked on each page & the blue Help
Moodle's system creates Dickinson's courses & populates student enrollment via the Registrar's current database. For faculty this means you do not need to request a course or enroll students. Check out the new Moodle tutorials here.
These workshops are geared toward faculty. The first 45 minutes will be going over the features & the last 45minutes will be working on your course. Stay for the entire time or drop in during the second half to work.

November 12th - 3pm till 4pm

The first 30 minutes of this workshop will be going over the basic functions of Moodle, then the rest of the time will be used to work on your specific course. If you have a course already listed in Blackboard with content that you would like copied over into Moodle email helpdesk@dickinson.edu with the course name & course id & request a course be created in Moodle asap so that it will be ready in time for this workshop. If you want a course created for your use in Moodle for your group, committee or organization email those details to the helpdesk also.
Open Departmental Web Page Workshops
November 5th - 2pm till 4pm

These workshops will be open to any one that needs to work on their departmental web pages. I will open the first 30 minutes of this workshop to go over the editing features of using Ektron CMS program as needed by the users attending the workshop. Bring your questions to this workshop or email me ahead of time what functions you would like explained. The second hour will be editing your web pages so bring your questions and work to do. Drop in or stay as it suits your needs. These workshops will be held in the LIS Professional Development lab in South College rooms 212/214. To register for these workshops please use CLIQ within the Gateway to reserve a seat.
Mac Ektron CMS Departmental Web Page Workshops
November 17th - 9am till 11am
December 14th - 9am till 11am
These workshops will be open to any one that needs to work on their departmental web pages using the Ektron CMS program. The first 45 minutes of this workshop I will go over the basic editing features of using Ektron CMS program. The second hour will be working on editing your web pages, so bring your questions and work to do. These workshops will be held in the Alden room which is located in the lower level of the library on Mac computers. To register for these workshops please use CLIQ within the Gateway.
Adobe or Macromedia Dreamweaver Basic Web Publishing Class
November 16th - 2pm till 3pm
Did you know as an employee or student on campus that you can have a personal web site? In this workshop you will learn how to create a web page in Dreamweaver starting from the beginning. We will cover the basic functions, creating pages, adding links, how to save and publish these files. Microsoft Merge & issues with Merges
November 19th - 2pm till 4pm
In this workshop we will go over the all types of merges using the merge wizard functions of Microsoft Word and how to set up & use an Excel file to merge letters, labels, envelopes & email merges. In this workshop we will deal with the troubled spots in a merge, how to find the label size, how blank rows make a merge appear, the sheet naming convention & more. This is a great refresher word workshop to attend.This class is open to the entire Dickinson community
Microsoft Excel Class
December 8th - 10am till 12pm
In this Excel workshop we will cover how to copy & paste data from Excel to other applications, like Power Point & saving data as a web page. Learn how to copy a sheet from one workbook to another & consolidating data from multiple worksheets into one. Learn how to Import & Export & use Paste Special along with some helpful tips. Excel auto filter & creating macros will also be covered. This is a great refresher word workshop to attend. This class is open to the entire Dickinson community.
