Copy A Blackboard Course & It's Contents To Make A New Course
Copying course materials into a new course creates a course
in the system and populates it with content from a course already
on the system saving your time when you teach a course again.
Click here to view a Step by Step Video on how to copy your course.
Step 1. First remove all users (students) EXCEPT YOURSELF.
NOTE: When you remove a user all of the Digital Drop box files and Discussion Board Details will not longer be available for that user.
To remove a user, go into the Control Panel, in the User Management section and click
on Remove Users from the course. Click on the Search button, a list of all users will appear. Check the boxes beside
all of the users EXCEPT YOURSELF. Type in Yes. (use a capital Y and lowercase es). Click Submit.
Step 2. In the Control Panel, in the Course Options section & click on Copy Course.
Step 3. You will then see three
choices. Click Copy Course Materials into a New Course.
Step 4. Under Section #1 - Select a Course.
Enter the Destination Course ID (lowercase letters) for the new course that will be created and populated with content
from the current course. Please make sure that the new Course ID
matches the naming convention used at the Registrar’s office.
Examples of old & new course ID’s*: |
|
|---|---|
Old course ID to be copied: econ100-01-fa08 Destination Course ID would be: econ100-01-fa09 |
Course with several sections: span104-0203-sp04 Destination Course ID would be: span104-0203-fa08 |
Step 5 . Under Section 2, Select Course Materials, put a check in all the boxes.

Step 6. Under Section 3, Enrollments. Be sure to put a check in the box by Enrollments, otherwise you will not be copied as the instructor in the new course.

Step 7. Click Submit.
Wait 2 minutes before accessing your new course or wait until you receive the email confirmation that it completed the copy process. You will now see the new course under the
Course's tab
More Helpful Information:
- If your course has not been taught before or if it was taught and archived from previous years please fill out the form for new course to be created by clicking on this link: Course Request Form .
- If you would like a course deleted because you will never need to
use it again,
please fill out this Delete Course Form. - If you want to copy your course but keep the original course with user content then copy the course with enrollments. Once the new course is created make it Unavailable by going into Control Panel, then Settings. Otherwise students will see both courses when they log in. Once you do that you can then remove the users from the newly copied course, but do not remove yourself. You will also need to check the Digital Drop box & Discussion Areas to see if there are any items that need removed.
