Customizing Your Gateway Layout

Managing Content/Layout Screen

Many elements of your Gateway layout can be customized to meet your personal preferences.  Tabs may be moved, renamed, or deleted.  New tabs can be created.  Channels can be added, moved, or removed from tabs.

All customization begins with the Managing Content/Layout page.  To access the Managing Content/Layout page, look for a link by that name in the upper left of your Gateway screen immediately above the My Home tab and left of the welcome message.  The Managing Content/Layout page presents you with a graphical tool for modifying your layout and changing content.  Across the top of the graphical tool you will see representations of each of your tabs.  You can click on each of these to see the layout for that tab.  Below the row of tabs, you will see representations of each channel and its position on the tab.  You will use these tools to customize your Gateway.

Add Tabs to Your Layout
Add Tab Screen

To access the Managing Content/Layout page, look for a link by that name in the upper left of your Gateway screen immediately above the My Home tab and left of the welcome message.

On the Managing Content/Layout page, you will see a row of blocks representing the tabs in your Gateway layout.  At the end of the row is a button that is not one of your tabs, but rather reads, “Add New Tab”.  Click this button to add a new tab.

You will be asked for information regarding your new tab:

  1. Enter a name for your new tab.  You can choose anything you want.  Remember, shorter is better if you don’t want your tabs to run off the right side of your monitor screen.
  2. Leave “traditional” checked as the type of tab if you are planning to add channels.  If you wish to have the tab load a particular Web page (displayed as the whole content of the tab), select “framed” and enter the URL.
  3. Finally, indicate where you would like to position your new tab by checking the appropriate location in the displayed line-up of tabs.
  4. Click the Submit button to complete your tab.  You can click the Back to … link in the upper left of your screen to return to your Gateway and see your new tab.

To access the Managing Content/Layout page, look for a link by that name in the upper left of your Gateway screen immediately above the My Home tab and left of the welcome message.

On the Managing Content/Layout page, you will see a row of blocks representing the tabs in your Gateway layout.  Some of these have left and right arrow buttons on either end.  If a block has one or more arrow buttons, it can be moved in the directions indicated.  Each click of an arrow button will move the tab one position in that direction.  Note that some blocks have no arrow buttons.  This means that these tabs cannot be moved.  The My Home tab is an example of an unmovable tab.  It must remain in the first position.

You can change the order of the columns by clicking the left and right arrow buttons near the Select Column button at the top of each column.

If you click the Select Column button, you will see a set of boxes appear at the top of the Managing Content/Layout page.  These boxes contain a percentage of screen width to allow each column.  You can set these percentages to any combination totaling one-hundred percent.  After you set the percentages, click the Save Widths button to  save you preferences.

When you are done creating your column (and, presumably, adding some channels to it), you can click the Back to … link in the upper left of your screen to return to your Gateway.  Select the tab on which you have added a column to see the results.

In the framed area beneath the row of blocks, you should see a number of boxes representing channels currently on the tab.  Each box has the name of the channel above it.  In places where you may add a new channel, you will see an Add Channel button.  Click the button in the position where you would like your new channel.

The Manage Content/Layout page will change to display a Select Category drop-down box.  Select the category where you believe your new channel would be listed.  (You may need to look through several categories to find it.)  Some categories have sub-categories.  If they do, a Select Subcategory drop-down box will appear.  A list of channels may also appear.  If you see your channel in the list, you may select it.  Otherwise, use the Select Subcategory drop-down to search for it in those lists.

Once you have found your new channel on a list, select it and click the Add Channel button.  You may be prompted to adjust some channel settings such as frame height.  You can leave the default value or enter a new one.  Once you are done, click the Finished button.  You will return to the main Manage Content/Layout page and should see that a box representing your new channel has appeared.
