Registering: Dickinson alumni should bring their Dickinson College ID (obtained from the college's ID office) to the main circulation desk. A library supervisor will assist you with registration.
Borrowing Privileges: The loan period for print items (books, scores, and government documents) is 28 days. The loan period for media items (CDs, DVDs, and Video Tapes) is 1 item at a time for 24 hours. Alumni are permitted to have a total of 10 items out simultaneously. For more information: see Loan Periods
Recalls: Because the library exists primarily for the use of Dickinson’s student and faculty, we reserve the right to recall library materials when necessary. Please return the items within 24 hours of receiving the Recall Notice. A fine of $1.00 per day is charged after this 24 hour grace period.
Overdues: A charge of 25 cents per day begins 7 days after the book is due retroactive to the first day. After the second notice the book is considered lost and you will be billed replacement plus processing costs ($100.00). You may not borrow additional items until all overdue books have been returned and charges have been paid and/or cleared.
Responsibility: You are responsible for all books checked out on your card. The card must be presented to borrow. Family members authorized to use your card must present the card.
Interlibrary Loan: Dickinson College alumni are permitted to use interlibrary loan services at no charge when the material borrowed is obtained free of charge. Some libraries do bill for their services and those charges will be passed onto the patron making the request. Book loans and articles received in paper format will be placed on the ILL shelves at the main circulation desk. Articles received electronically will be sent to your ILLiad account. For information on requesting items from ILL see Borrow From Other Libraries.
Public Computers and Database Access: There are two public computers located on the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the library. The library’s on-line catalog, databases and the internet may be accessed from these computers. You will not have remote access to our databases.
Laser Printing Fee: There is a 10 cents per side printed charge. Printouts may be picked up at the Circulation Desk.
Digital Microform Readers: In order to use the digital microform readers in the information commons you must see a supervisor at the circulation desk or ask the lower level service desk attendant to assist you with login. Laser printing fees will apply.
