HIGH SCHOOL BORROWER REGULATIONS

Registering:
Students: The high school librarian provides students who wish to use Dickinson’s library with a “Request for Borrowing” card properly completed with the student’s name, high school, and the one month borrowing period for which the card is valid.  The card must be signed by the librarian, verifying the high school’s agreement to accept responsibility for that student.  The high school student must present the request card at the Dickinson College library circulation desk when they wish to check out an item.  The request card is not returned to the student, but is retained by Dickinson for our records.  The student will be issued a bar coded library card which will be good for one month only. 
Teachers: The high school librarian will provide teachers who wish to use Dickinson’s library with a Request for Borrowing card properly completed with the teacher’s name and high school. The card must be signed by the librarian, verifying the high school’s agreement to accept responsibility for that teacher’s checkouts.  The high school librarian should keep records regarding which teachers have been issued borrowing cards for the academic year.  The high school teacher must present the Request for Borrowing card at the Dickinson College library circulation desk to be issued a barcoded library card.  The request card is not returned to the teacher, but is retained by Dickinson for our records.  The library card will be good until May 10 of the academic year in which it was issued.  All other high school privileges apply.
Borrowing Privileges: 
The loan period for books, scores, and government documents is 28 days.  A high school borrower may take out 3 items at a time. High School borrowers may not borrow Audio and Visual materials.
Recalls:  Because the library exists primarily for the use of Dickinson’s students and faculty, we reserve the right to recall a book when necessary.  Please return the items within 24 hours of receiving the Recall Notice.  A fine of $1.00 per day is charged after this 24 hour grace period.
Overdues:  The Dickinson Circulation Department will notify the high school librarian of any overdue books within one week of the due date.  You may not borrow additional items until all overdue books have been returned and charges have been paid and/or cleared.   Fines must be paid at the Circulation Desk in the Waidner- Spahr Library by check or cash.Books checked by high school students or teachers may not be renewed. The high school librarian should contact their student or faculty when a book is overdue and make every effort to secure the return of all books.  The library charges 25 cents per day for an overdue book.  Books  not returned within a 14 days of being due will be considered lost and the H.S.will be billed replacement plus processing costs ($100.00).  Fines must be paid at the circulation desk of the Waidner-Spahr Library by check or cash.
Public Computers:  There are two public computers located on the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the library.  The library’s on-line catalog, databases and the internet may be accessed from these computers.
Laser Printing Fee:
There is a charge of 10 cents per side printed.  A double-sided page is charged 20 cents. Printouts may be picked up and paid for at the Circulation Desk.
Digital Microform Readers:
In order to use the digital microform readers in the information commons you must see a supervisor at the circulation desk or ask the lower level service desk attendant to assist you with login.  Laser printing fees will apply.
